Project MKULTRA

MKUltra was a top secret CIA operation that ran from 1953 to 1973. They used hospitals, prisons, universities and pharmaceutical companies as front operations to conduct these mind control experiments. The operation used psychoactive drugs as well as other chemicals, along with electro shock treatments, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, forced isolation, verbal and even sexual assault. Most of this was done without the consent of the subjects.

In the 1973 CIA Director Richard Helms ordered all documentation relating to MKUltra be destroyed. The truth of the operation only became known following a Freedom of Information Act request that found some 20,000 documents relating to MKUltra that had been misfiled and thus escaped the CIA’s attempt to cover up the entire operation.
